And then you let go, and everything crashes. Securities are shaken, confidences tremble and fall. It hurts, you hurt, and you gasp for breath but it feels like there is none, just like the floor underneath your feet, which dissolves into thin air. You fall, and the best thing you can do is to close your eyes and lean into it because little do you know that at this very moment you start to truly live. Continue reading
Move, interact, listen, feel, act, react, let go, give in, stand out.
Life is technical these days. We are strangulated somewhere between naturalism, industrialism, workaholism, perfectionism, self-optimizationism. The world is becoming a machine, isn’t it? A giant clockwork. And we all jump and run according to its pointers. Continue reading
Science, the holy grail of comprehension, despite being incomprehensible for many, still accepted with open arms. For most, science is that which generates knowledge. After all, art or philosophy didn’t bring us to outer space. Altruism never cured cancer and a poem never moved an aeroplane through the sky. Science did it, and science did it well. Much of what we appreciate about modern life had to be discovered, researched and explained. To deny that Science has been a blessing for humanity would be blind and arrogant. But to deny that science is not a blessing alone would be so too. Continue reading
If you had the chance to change anything about you, no matter what, would you do it? It could be your body, your appearance, your personality, your possessions if you could change anything about you, and no one would know that you did it afterward, would you do it? Are you satisfied with who you are right now? Continue reading
Why do we get attacked?
You never know. You can be out there, being yourself, and suddely…it’s there.
That one moment that makes your life crumble to pieces, that one wrong person at the wrong place, at the wrong time and in the wrong mood, and suddenly…it’s there. Continue reading
There is a hunger, deep inside,
Rooted in the conviction that what we have is insufficient,
It grows, fed by fake ideas of what could be,
Climbing across our minds, creeping into our thoughts
To take possession of our goals
Of our dreams
Of our life
“Meaninglessness does not come from being weary of pain; meaninglessness comes from being weary of pleasure”
In the last months, I’ve been putting a lot of thoughts into the question of how the concept of our self-confidence and insecurity works.
From a logical standpoint, it’s always been interesting to me how we manage to detach our identities from our bodies in order to be able to hate them, to use our insecurities as motivation to shape them. How do we form an identity in our modern society? How can we overcome this endless spiral of self-hatred, blaming and body shaming? Continue reading
We are all running. Running towards a better future, towards a successful future. Running towards our goals, resolutions, dreams and expectations. Running towards a life that will be as perfect as we deserve it to be. Running towards happiness.
And we are running away. Running away from death. Running away from never having mattered. Running away from not having left any sign of our existence in this world. Running away from our failures and shortcomings. Running away from our imperfections. Continue reading
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
– Albus Dumbledore
When I was a child reading Harry Potter, I never understood this quote. I somehow knew that it was going to be an important one, but I could never make sense of why any person in their right mind would ever “turn off the light”. It took some growing up for me to finally start to turn it off myself. And then a whole lot more growing up to come to the same conclusion as I did when I first read this, that turning off this light is not the smartest thing to do. So why do we still keep doing it?
